NEW! Spirit Day on Tuesday, May 26, 2026. Our school community is welcome to wear Red, White, and Blue to Celebrate America 250. America 250 marks the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.

NEW! Summer Library Dates: Mark your calendars! Mondays from 12:15 - 1:15 PM Pop into Tonawanda's library this summer to check out books on June 22, July 6, July 20, August 3, and August 17. Hope to see you in our library  this summer!

NEW! From the Elmbrook Education Foundation (EEF) Volunteers Needed: We want to let you know about a wonderful volunteer opportunity for 2026-27: The Elmbrook Education Foundation (EEF) is continuing its Intergenerational Program in all 5 of our elementary schools, which involves having volunteers work with our students on reading fluency during WIN/SOAR time once or twice per week from October to May. The program has been running successfully at Swanson for 3 years, at Dixon for 2 years, and at all 5 schools for the past year, and we are excited to see it continuing across the district! This year, the program reached over 190 students with 76 active volunteers! Next year, EEF will need at least 80-90 volunteers to support all 5 schools, so they are encouraging people to apply as soon as possible. (Fortunately, many volunteers from this year will be continuing next year!)

Here’s the timeline of ramping up the program to prepare for next year:

  • Applicants can apply now! (The on-line Google Form Application and the Printable Application)
  • Applicants will be contacted for brief virtual interviews (20 minutes via Zoom) throughout the summer (June-August).
  • Applicants selected for a volunteer position will be asked to complete an on-line background check process (required for all volunteers in Elmbrook Schools).
  • Volunteering schedules will be finalized in August and September based on volunteer preferences and availability and student schedules. (days of week, time slots, and school assignment)
  • Brief training and orientation sessions (1.5-2 hours) will be held for volunteers in late September/early October.
  • Volunteers will work with students 1-2 times per week from October 5, 2026, through May 6, 2027.

Here is the website with more details about the EEF Intergen Programhttps://eef.elmbrookschools.org/events/intergenerational

It includes the following links and documents:

Please consider applying to be a volunteer or sub and encouraging others to do so as well! If you have any questions, please reach out to the EEF Intergen Program Co-Chairs, Deborah Nustad and Stephanie Huff, at eefintergen@gmail.com.

Library Books DUE June 5th! Your library books miss the library! As we approach the end of the school year, we are gathering all outstanding library books! Families, please help your student search under the beds and on the bookshelves for any missing Tonawanda library books. Please send any borrowed books back with your student in the coming weeks, or drop them off at the front office. Thank you for helping us get our stories back on the shelves!

We are seeking three and four-year-olds to participate as peer models in our Early Childhood Special Education Program at Burleigh Elementary beginning in Fall 2026. Please see this linked informational flyer for all the details!

Note from our General Music Teacher, Anna Contezac: MUSIC and ME! You are cordially invited to attend MUSIC and ME! Day, to be held during our regularly scheduled music classes from Tuesday, May 26th - Monday June 1st, please see this linked schedule for class times and dates. Families of students may come into Tonawanda and watch while students perform or present in class! Please come a bit early to make sure you get a visitors badge. Mrs. Contezac will also be recording it to send home. If you need your student to have a performance on a specific date, just let Mrs. Contezac know!
During MUSIC and ME!, students share one another’s diverse musical interests, while practicing confident presentation skills and proper audience etiquette. Like a musical “show and tell,” MUSIC and ME! is voluntary, and all students are heartily encouraged to present how music is special in their lives. Student performances and/or presentations need to be 3 minutes or less in length. Additionally, if students are performing with audio, a permission slip or permission email is required. Students are reminded of the 3 PRs: PRepare, PRactice, PResent! Students who participate receive applause, recognition, and a certificate to savor as a memento.

Background Check Process for Volunteers!  We love  our family/parent/grandparent volunteers!  In hopes that we will be able to welcome you all back in to help out this upcoming school year, we wanted to share the process for becoming a volunteer in our schools.  Please see https://www.elmbrookschools.org/departments/human-resources/how-to-volunteer-in-elmbrook for all the information including completing our district's volunteer background check process.  You will need to renew this process every two years.  It is a great idea to get this task done over the summer as there is an approximate two week processing time before you are able to volunteer in our school. Thank you!
